Recap: ULM vs. Idaho

Monroe, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Pete Thomas passed for 384 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, and Centarius Donald carried 20 times for 111 yards and three scores as the ULM Warhawks stole a thrilling 38-31 victory against the Idaho Vandals in Sun Belt Conference action at Malone Stadium Saturday.

The game was delayed due to storms in the first quarter for over two hours. ULM held a 14-7 lead when the teams left the field.

Thomas completed 24-of-44 pass attempts in the win for ULM (2-0, 1-0 Sun Belt). Donald broke touchdown runs of 34 and 21 yards earlier in the contest, but his one-yard run with nine seconds left to play gave the Warhawks the win.

Matt Linehan connected on 26-of-47 pass attempts for 324 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for Idaho (0-1, 0-1). Jerrel Brown carried the ball 22 times for 117 yards, and Joshua McCain caught eight passes for 93 yards and a pair of scores in the loss.

Linehan connected with McCain for a nine-yard touchdown strike to start the scoring. The Vandals took a 7-0 lead just over three minutes into the game.

ULM scored the next three touchdowns. Thomas hit Alec Osborne for a two- yard score with 6:03 left to play in the first, and the Warhawks took a 14-7 lead when Thomas found Ajalen Holley for a monster 58-yard scoring completion with 3:32 to play. A 34-yard touchdown run from Donald gave ULM the 21-7 lead at the end of the first period.

Elijhaa Penny found the end zone on a three-yard rush with 7:50 remaining in the opening half to cut ULM's lead to 21-14. Linehan knotted the score at 21 apiece when he found McCain for the pair's second scoring connection, this one a 10-yard completion with 6:52 to play.

ULM's Justin Manton closed out the half by hitting a 27-yard field goal with 13 seconds left to give the Warhawks a 24-21 lead at the midway point.

Donald provided the only points in the third quarter with a 21-yard touchdown run, giving the Warhawks a 10-point lead with 8:36 left to play.

Austin Rehkow kicked his first field goal of the game - a 28-yard boot - for Idaho just over a minute into the fourth quarter, putting the Vandals down 31-24. Linehan once again tied the score up, this time finding Deon Watson on a 32-yard scoring strike with 4:22 left to play.

The Warhawks chipped away toward the end zone late in the game, and Donald capped a six-play, 73-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run with nine seconds to seal the win for the Warhawks.

The two sides collectively threw for 708 yards, with Linehan and Thomas combining for 92 pass attempts. The Vandals racked up 12 penalties in the contest for a total of 119 yards penalized.
