Recap: ULM vs. Troy

Monroe, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Pete Thomas had 328 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns, and a late field goal allowed the ULM Warhawks to edge the Troy Trojans, 22-20, in Sun Belt Conference action at Malone Stadium.

Thomas completed 28-of-43 passes with an interception for ULM (3-1, 2-0 Sun Belt). Rashon Ceaser was busy out wide with 12 receptions for 121 yards, while Ajalen Holley (five receptions, 109 yards) was on the receiving end of both of Thomas' touchdown passes.

For Troy (0-5, 0-1), Brandon Silvers had a career-best performance, setting new highs in completions (23), attempts (34), yards (270) and touchdowns (three) without throwing an interception. Bryan Holmes caught seven balls for 97 yards and a score, while Chandler Worthy finished with six receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns.

ULM opened up a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. Justin Manton connected on a 37-yard field goal at the 8:19 mark, then less than four minutes later Thomas tossed a 64-yard scoring strike to Holley.

The Warhawks stretched their lead to 13 early in the second following a 34- yard field goal by Manton.

Troy stepped up its play late in the first half. Silvers hooked up with Holmes on a 19-yard touchdown with 5:51 to play before halftime. The Trojans took a 14-13 lead with under a minute left on another Silvers touchdown pass, this time to Worthy from four yards out.

ULM regained the lead, 19-14, late in the third quarter on another Thomas-to- Holley scoring hookup (15 yards). The Warhawks attempted to make it a seven- point game but the two-point conversion failed.

Troy captured the lead with 7:36 left in the game on Worthy's second touchdown reception of the night, a 6-yarder from Silvers.

The Warhawks marched 57 yards in 13 plays over the next five and a half minutes and went ahead on a 29-yard field goal by Manton with 2:08 to play.

The Trojans approached midfield on their final drive but turned the ball over on downs.

ULM held on to win despite picking up only 29 rushing yards. Despite the lack of a ground game, the Warhawks still controlled the time-of-possession battle (34:44).
