The Jaguars got on the board early in the second quarter on a trick play. Vaughn tossed a backwards pass to Jake Howton, who then threw it back to Vaughn across the field for a 28-yard touchdown.

The Bobcats padded their lead six minutes later when Jones hooked up with Lawrence White on a 46-yard touchdown.

South Alabama made it a one-possession game, 17-10, with 1:16 left in the first half on a 46-yard field goal by Aleem Sunanon.
