Recap: New Mexico St vs. Texas State

Las Cruces, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Jones passed for 143 yards with a touchdown and ran for a team-high 82 yards, and Robert Lowe rushed for two scores as the Texas State Bobcats held off the New Mexico State Aggies, 37-29, in a Sun Belt Conference clash at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Lowe carried the ball a team-high 16 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns, and Terrence Franks added 64 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries for Texas State (5-3, 3-1 SBC). Jafus Gaines caught a team-best seven passes for 55 yards in the win, which was the second in a row for the Bobcats.

Tyler Rogers completed 36-of-52 pass attempts for 404 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for New Mexico State (2-7, 1-4), which has dropped seven contests in a row. Larry Rose III carried the ball 24 times for 181 yards and a score, and Jerrel Brown hauled in 139 receiving yards with a touchdown.

Will Johnson cashed in on a 36-yard field goal try to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead with 11:44 to play in the first, but the lead didn't last too long.

Not even a minute later, Rogers hit Brown for an 86-yard touchdown strike to give the Aggies the 7-3 advantage with 10:55 left in the first.

Texas State took the lead back when Lowe scored on a handoff from 14 yards out with 7:04 to play in the first frame. The Bobcats went ahead, 10-7.

It was Lowe again not even five minutes later that gave Texas State the 17-7 lead, this time when he rushed for a five-yard score. The Bobcats went up with 2:25 to play in the first period.

Rogers helped New Mexico State slice the lead when he hit Joseph Matthews on a two-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds to play in the half. The Aggies went into the locker room trailing, 17-14.

Terrence Franks gave the Bobcats a 24-14 lead following a 14-yard touchdown run with 9:39 to play in the third quarter. Not even a minute later, it was Franks recovering and returning a blocked punt for a 10-yard touchdown to give Texas State the 30-14 advantage.

Rose got the Aggies back to within striking distance when he took a handoff 13 yards for the New Mexico State score with 6:27 to play in the third. His touchdown sliced the Texas State lead to 30-21.

Jones hit Lawrence White on a 23-yard touchdown connection with 2:52 left in the third period to put Texas State up by a cushiony 37-21 score.

With just 2:35 left to play, Rogers connected with Teldrick Morgan on a 21- yard scoring pass completion. He found Gregory Hogan on a two-point conversion pass play to cut the Texas State lead to 37-29, but the scoring would end there.

Texas State was able to win even though New Mexico State racked up 32 first downs and 639 offensive yards in the contest. The two sides combined for 522 rushing yards and four rushing scores in the game - three ground touchdowns belonged to the Bobcats.
