Recap: Idaho vs. Troy

Moscow, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Chunn racked up 193 yards to help the Troy Trojans down the Idaho Vandals, 34-17, in a Sun Belt Conference matchup at the Kibbie Dome.

Chunn carried the ball 28 times for Troy (3-8, 2-4 Sun Belt), while Khary Franklin also made an impact in the rushing attack for the visitors with 61 yards on 15 attempts. Brandon Silvers compiled 231 yards and two touchdowns on 19-of-25 passing efficiency. Bryan Holmes paced the Trojans' receivers with 97 yards and two scores on six catches. Montres Kitchens had a monster performance on the defensive side of the ball for the Trojans, as he made a team-best eight stops, three interceptions and scored a defensive touchdown. The win was the second in a row for Troy, which will close out its regular season at home versus Louisiana after a bye next week.

For Idaho (1-9, 1-6), Matt Linehan completed only 14-of-36 passing attempts for 269 yards with one touchdown against three interceptions. Joshua McCain led all players with seven receptions and 128 yards. Jerell Brown also made a mark for the Vandals, recording 12 carries for 77 yards and a score. Bradley Njoku and Quayshawne Buckley registered 12 total tackles each on defense for the Vandals.

Silvers gave Troy a 7-0 lead less than two minutes after the opening kickoff, as he completed a 41-yard touchdown pass to Holmes to conclude the first drive of the contest. The Vandals registered their inaugural points of the game at the 2:26 mark of the first frame, when Austin Rehkow converted a 23-yard field goal try. The Trojans quickly responded with a five-play, 30-yard drive which resulted in a successful 40-yard field goal attempt by Ryan Kay.

Troy extended its lead to 17-3 near the midway point of the second stanza, as Chunn rushed 13 yards across the goal line. Idaho answered on the second play of its ensuing drive, as Linehan completed a 64-yard touchdown pass to McCain.

The Trojans fired back as Silvers and Holmes connected on a 51-yard scoring pass with just under five minutes left before the intermission. Brown narrowed the deficit down to 24-17 for Idaho with a one-yard touchdown rush at the 3:49 mark of the second period.

The only points of the third quarter came courtesy of a 28-yard interception return by Kitchens. Kay chipped in a 20-yard field goal attempt with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation to notch the final points of the game.

The Trojans outgained the Vandals, 524-386, in total yards of offense. The loss was the third in a row for Idaho, which will visit FBS newcomer Appalachian State on Nov. 29 in their final game of the campaign.
