Las Cruces, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Ellison rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns as the Georgia Southern Eagles held on for a 36-28 win over the New Mexico State Aggies in a Sun Belt Conference bout at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Alfred Ramsby added 136 yards and a score on 18 carries and Matt Breida had 96 yards on 15 attempts for Georgia Southern (4-2, 3-0 Sun Belt).

Tyler Rogers threw for 329 yards on 34-of-38 passing but was also intercepted three times for New Mexico State (2-4, 1-1). Brandon Betancourt rushed for 65 yards and two scores and Teldrick Morgan brought in 10 passes for 100 yards.

The Aggies led 14-0 at the end of the first half thanks to touchdown runs of eight and three yards from Xavier Hall and Larry Rose, respectively.

Ellison gave the Eagles their first points of the game with a seven-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter. Unfortunately for Georgia Southern, the extra point attempt was blocked.

Alex Hanks added a pair of field goals, one from 23 yards and the other from 45 yards, in the final minutes of the second half, allowing the Eagles to enter the break trailing just 14-12.

The Eagles broke into the lead on a seven-yard touchdown run from Ramsby early in the third quarter.

Hanks' third field goal of the game, this time from 30 yards out, edged the Eagles ahead even further.

A one-yard touchdown run from Ean Days near the end of the third quarter continued the scoring run for Georgia Southern.

New Mexico State finally got on the scoreboard again with a five-yard touchdown run from Betancourt, but Ellison responded with a 32-yard touchdown run on the next drive.

The Aggies got a three-yard touchdown run from Betancourt with 20 seconds remaining, but the ensuing onside kick attempt was recovered by the Eagles, ending the comeback bid.

New Mexico State scored touchdowns on all four red zone trips. Georgia Southern had a 13-0 edge in points off turnovers.
