Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - Arkansas State named former Texas offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin as its new head football coach on Tuesday.

Harsin was hired as Texas' offensive coordinator in 2011 after spending the previous 10 seasons on the Boise State coaching staff -- the last five as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

"We are extremely excited to name Bryan Harsin as our new head football coach," said Red Wolves athletics director Terry Mohajir. "Coach Harsin has a proven track record of success, helping produce one of the best football brands in the country and also working with one of the top programs of all- time. He has strong experience developing quarterbacks, which was important to me, and always puts his players first."

Former head coach Gus Malzahn took the Auburn job after just a year at Arkansas State. He led the Red Wolves to a 9-3 record and a Sun Belt conference title this season.

"This is a tremendous honor to be the head football coach at Arkansas State University," said Harsin. "I've prepared a long time for this opportunity, and I'm looking forward to building on a strong foundation already in place here. I've felt the enthusiasm surrounding this program, and that is very exciting."
