Jackson, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - The Homecoming Day celebration went on for Jackson State University on Saturday at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium despite the Tigers being left without an opponent.

Jackson State earned a forfeit win over winless over Grambling State, whose team refused to travel to the Southwestern Athletic Conference game as players continued to protest conditions surrounding their team.

Jackson State played an intrasquad scrimmage, which lasted for about 30 minutes, before about 8,000 spectators. The school marching band also performed and the scrimmage was followed by a concert.

"I am really pleased with the way the day turned out, under the circumstances," Tigers head football coach Rick Comegy said. "We had the chance to rest some players who needed it as well as getting some practice in for some of the guys who would not have normally had the chance to practice."

Jackson State, 6-2 overall, leads the SWAC's East Division with a 6-0 record.

Grambling officials were meeting at their Louisiana campus to try to reach a resolution with the disgruntled players, who are unhappy with the condition of training facilities and being forced to travel what they believe to be excessive distances by bus for some road games.
