Daytona Beach, FL (Sports Network) - Bethune-Cookman head football coach Brian Jenkins is expected to stay at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference school after being one of three finalists for the same position at Southern University.

Jenkins canceled his interview scheduled for Thursday on the Southern campus, Southern athletics director William Broussard told the Advocate of Baton Rouge, La.

Late Wednesday, Bethune-Cookman called a news conference with athletic director Lynn Thompson on Thursday to discuss "the future of the Bethune- Cookman University Wildcats football program."

Jenkins, a finalist for the 2012 Eddie Robinson Award as FCS coach of the year, is considered a rising star in the Division I coaching ranks. In three seasons at Bethune-Cookman, the 41-year-old's teams have posted a 27-8 record, won two MEAC championships and made two FCS playoff appearances.

Southern, a Southwestern Athletic Conference member, is expected to pick its new coach from the two other finalists, interim head coach Dawson Odums, who posted a 4-5 record after taking over for the fired Stump Mitchell in mid- September, and Nevada tight ends and offensive line coach James Spady.

Southern announced previously that Broussard expects to introduce the Jaguars' new coach at a Southern board of supervisors meeting Friday.
