Media favors Jacksonville State in OVC

Nashville, TN ( - Jacksonville State was selected as the preseason favorite in the Ohio Valley Conference in a vote of media members, including The Sports Network.

The Gamecocks picked up nine of 14 first-place votes and 118 points in the poll. They were followed by Tennessee State (four first-place votes, 113 points), two-time defending champion Eastern Illinois (one first- place vote, 98), Eastern Kentucky (79), UT Martin (77), Murray State (56), Tennessee Tech (44), Southeast Missouri State (29) and Austin Peay (16).

Jacksonville State senior running back DaMarcus James was selected as the preseason offensive player of the year and Tennessee State senior defensive end Anthony Bass as the preseason defensive player of the year.

The OVC will release a preseason poll and All-OVC team, as voted on by conference head coaches and sports information directors, on Monday at its annual media day.
