Bozeman, MT (Sports Network) - Three-time defending Big Sky Conference champion Montana State is adding former University of Nevada reserve quarterback Tanner Roderick to its program.

Roderick told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle in Monday's edition that he will transfer to Montana State after being granted a release from the Nevada program last week.

Montana State coach Rob Ash declined comment, citing NCAA rules, but the Chronicle said Roderick is enrolled for the spring semester, which starts Wednesday.

Roderick, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback from Bozeman, has three years of eligibility remaining and is eligible to play immediately. He was considered third on the Nevada depth chart this past season after redshirting in 2011.

The Bobcats' crowded quarterback position, including the return of three-year starter DeNarius McGhee, will force Roderick to move to wide receiver for the 2013 season.

Roderick's father, Steve, played in the Montana State program in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Montana State had a 11-2 record and reached the FCS quarterfinals this season. The Bobcats finished fifth in The Sports Network FCS Top 25.
