Savannah, GA (Sports Network) - Savannah State University held the first of four on-campus interviews on Monday with finalists for the head football coaching position.

John Hendrick, the special teams coordinator/defensive ends coach at Alabama State, made a presentation and then answered questions during an hour- long forum in the Jordan Auditorium.

Hendrick previously was an assistant at Tulane, South Florida and South Carolina State.

Also set for interviews are Earnest Wilson III on Tuesday, Ester Junior on Wednesday and Robert Joseph on Thursday.

Wilson is the offensive coordinator/quarterback coach at Hampton. He also has worked as an assistant at Jackson State, New Mexico State and Benedict.

Junior has been the head coach at Central State since 2009.

Joseph recently joined the staff at Alcorn State as wide receiver coach after compiling a 13-7 record as the head coach at Langston the last two seasons.

Savannah State, a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference member, is replacing Steve Davenport, who was fired on April 17 after back-to-back 1-10 seasons.

Cornerbacks coach Corey Barlow, the only assistant coach retained when Davenport was fired, has been serving as the interim head coach.
