Lubbock, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Texas Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury got an extension and a raise on the eve of his third season.

The school announced Friday night that it has agreed to a three-year extension to keep Kingsbury with the Red Raiders through 2020.

The deal raises Kingsbury's salary to $3.1 million in 2015. He will make $4.1 million in the last year of the extension.

"There has never been a more exciting time within our football program than now," Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in a statement. "I am very proud of the program coach Kingsbury is building and I know our fans are as well."

Kingsbury, 35, played quarterback at Texas Tech from 1998-2002 and was hired in December 2012 after Tommy Tuberville left unexpectedly to coach Cincinnati.

The Red Raiders were 8-5 in each of Kingsbury's first two seasons at the helm with one bowl game win. They open the 2014 season on Saturday at home against Central Arkansas.

Texas Tech also agreed to extensions with the head coaches for baseball, track and field and men's tennis.
