Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - UCLA and head football coach Jim Mora have agreed to a one-year contract extension after the Bruins reached the Pac-12 title game in Mora's first year at the helm.

The extension will keep Mora on the UCLA sideline through the 2017 season.

UCLA won nine of its first 11 games this past season, which included a victory over rival USC, before ending the year with three straight losses -- the last a 49-26 drubbing against Baylor in the Holiday Bowl.

"What Jim Mora has accomplished in just one season as our head coach is remarkable," said UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero. "The wins, the Pac-12 South championship, and the bowl berth were accompanied by an equally impressive performance by the team in the classroom and in the community."

Before taking over at UCLA, Mora had been a television analyst for two years after a one-season stint as head coach of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. He was also the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2004-06 and led the team to the NFC Championship Game.

He had not coached in college since 1984, when he was a graduate assistant at Washington.
