Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - IndyCar placed Chip Ganassi Racing driver Scott Dixon on probation for the remainder of the year and fined him $30,000 for making disparaging remarks toward race officials and other competitors following the Sept. 1 Grand Prix of Baltimore.

According to a news release from IndyCar on Friday, Dixon violated Rule (using improper, profane or disparaging language or gestures in reference to officials, members or action or situations connected with IndyCar, the IZOD IndyCar Series or any event) and Rule 9.3.7 (if any member uses improper, profane or disparaging language or gestures and references a specific official by his/her name, such member may be fined a minimum of $25,000 and may be subject to additional penalties based upon the particular circumstances).

Dixon was involved in a crash with Will Power late in the race at Baltimore. Power bumped into Dixon and put him into the barrier. After placing 19th, Dixon was furious with the officiating of the event. With three races remaining, he is 49 points behind leader Helio Castroneves.

IndyCar noted that Dixon will be able to work off the fine by making public appearances on behalf of the sport.
