Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves announced on Wednesday that they have exercised manager Fredi Gonzalez's contract option for the 2014 season.

The 48-year-old Gonzalez has compiled a 183-141 record as the Braves' skipper since replacing the venerable Bobby Cox, who retired after the 2010 season.

An epic collapse led to Atlanta missing the playoffs in Gonzalez's first year at the helm in 2011. The Braves squandered a 10 1/2 game National League wild card lead they held in late August and finished with an 89-73 mark.

The Braves went 94-68 this past year and reached the postseason, but lost to St. Louis in a one-game wild card playoff.

Gonzalez earned his first managerial job in the majors with the Marlins in 2007 and remained in that role until being fired in June 2010. He departed the Marlins with a 276-279 record.
