Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Gavin Floyd suffered a broken olecranon in his right elbow in Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals.

After the first pitch of the seventh inning, which Washington's Jayson Werth drove foul, Floyd flexed his arm and then left the game, with Anthony Varvaro taking over on the hill.

Atlanta announced after the game that x-rays revealed the fracture and that he will return to Atlanta on Friday for an evaluation by team doctors.

He will be placed on the disabled list, and a corresponding move will also be made.

Floyd was making just his ninth start of the season, as he didn't make his first appearance with the Braves until May 6 while recovering from Tommy John surgery that he had while a member of the White Sox last May.

He is 2-2 with a 2.65 earned run average over his nine games this season.
