St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Allen Craig will have to wait until at least next year to face his former club.
Boston's Craig, who was acquired along with Joe Kelly from the St. Louis Cardinals as part of the John Lackey deal before the non-waiver trade deadline last week, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a foot injury.
Boston opens a three-game set at St. Louis on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old is hitting just .237 this season with seven homers, but has batted over .300 in each of the last two years and is a .291 career hitter with 57 homers and 291 RBI in 470 games.
Craig has played left field, right field and first base this season and went 1-for-4 in his debut with Boston on Friday.
Boston selected the contract of outfielder Corey Brown from Triple-A Pawtucket and recalled pitcher Heath Hembree from Pawtucket.
