Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals announced Tuesday that manager Ned Yost has agreed to a two-year extension that runs through the 2015 season.

Yost, who was named the Royals manager in 2010, led Kansas City to an 86-76 mark this season. It was the team's first winning season since 2003 and the most victories (86) since the club won 92 games in 1989.

The 2013 squad recorded 42 wins after the All-Star break, which were the most in the American League.

"We took a major step this year. Getting to 10 games over .500 was a major step for us. We need to continue to grow," Yost said.

The Royals have compiled a record of 284-329 during Yost's tenure. The team has increased its win total in each of his four years at the helm.

He has a career mark of 741-831, spending nearly six full seasons from 2003-08 with Milwaukee. His 741 career wins rank 81st all-time and are 12th among active managers in the Major Leagues.

Yost was poised to guide the Brewers to a playoff appearance in 2008 before he was fired with 12 games remaining in the regular season. Milwaukee was on the verge of a collapse when Yost was dismissed, then eventually captured the NL wild card before bowing out to the eventual World Series champion Phillies in four games in the Division Series.
