Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw will not make his scheduled regular-season start Sunday at San Diego due to inflammation in his upper back.

An MRI taken Wednesday revealed the soreness but showed no signs of significant damage, and Kershaw told reporters later that the injury is not serious.

"It's nothing to be worried about, but it's really frustrating," he said. "If I had to push tomorrow, I could probably do it."

Kershaw tossed 6 1/3 sharp innings in the Dodgers' season-opening 3-1 win over Arizona in Australia last Saturday, limiting the Diamondbacks to one run on five hits while striking out seven.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has yet to determine who would pitch in Sunday's matchup, the Padres' season opener, but did say that No. 2 starter Zack Greinke will stay on turn and make his scheduled assignment for Tuesday.
