Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Henderson Alvarez will make his Miami Marlins debut in Thursday's game against the Atlanta Braves, with the team reinstating the offseason acquisition from the 60-day disabled list to serve as its starting pitcher.

Alvarez was one of seven players the cost-cutting Marlins received in last November's blockbuster trade with Toronto that sent established veterans Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle to the Blue Jays. He had been sidelined since spring training due to inflammation in his right shoulder.

The 23-year-old went 9-14 with a 4.85 earned run average over 31 starts with Toronto in 2012, his first full season in the majors.

Alvarez tuned up for Thursday's assignment with an extended rehab stint in the minors, and was recently named the Southern League's Pitcher of the Week after yielding just five hits over 14 1/3 scoreless innings with Double-A Jacksonville.

The Marlins optioned right-hander Tom Koehler to Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move. The rookie made 10 starts and six relief appearances for Miami this season, but was just 1-5 with a 4.70 ERA.
