Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Milwaukee Brewers will be without Jean Segura for their final two games before the All-Star break, as the starting shortstop has left the team to travel to his native Dominican Republic following the death of his nine-month-old son.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke delivered the tragic news to reporters shortly following the team's 7-6 loss to St. Louis on Friday, after which the team closed the clubhouse to the media.

"There's been a death in one of the families of one of our players, so I don't want to answer questions," Roenicke said without mentioning the player's name at the time. "For respect of him right now, we're not going to let anybody in the clubhouse. Sorry, but these things are tough and I just don't want to leave any players open to anything."

Milwaukee then placed Segura on the bereavement list on Saturday and recalled utilityman Elian Herrera to take his place on the active roster.

It is yet unclear as to whether Segura will return to the Brewers for the club's first game following the break, which is scheduled for next Friday in Washington. Jeff Bianchi will start at shortstop for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Segura earned a spot on the 2013 National League All-Star team last season and finished the year with 12 home runs, 49 RBI, 44 stolen bases and a .294 batting average. The 24-year-old was hitting just .232 in 2014, though his 15 steals ranked second on the team.
