New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Mets have reportedly offered third baseman David Wright a seven-year extension worth in excess of $100 million.

Sources told the Daily News on Tuesday that the Mets have been negotiating with the 29-year-old infielder for several weeks, with each side trading offers. According to the paper, the deal is set to kick in after the 2013 season and be worth around $18 million per year.

Wright batted .306 with 21 home runs, 41 doubles and 93 RBI in 156 games and earned his sixth career All-Star selection last season, his ninth with the franchise.

Since breaking into the majors in 2004, the southern Virginia native has compiled a .301 average, 204 homers, 322 doubles and 818 runs batted in over 1.262 contests. Wright also holds the club record for total hits with 1,426.

News of this potential blockbuster came one day after Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria was signed to a $100 million, six-year extension which was set to start after his current deal elapsed in 2016.
