Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - 2012 American League Championship Series MVP Delmon Young is headed to the National League for the upcoming season, with the Philadelphia Phillies signing the veteran outfielder to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

Young, who batted .313 with three home runs and nine RBI during the Detroit Tigers' four-game sweep of the New York Yankees in last October's ALCS, will receive $750,000 guaranteed with an opportunity to earn more via performance bonuses.

The 27-year-old hit .267 with 18 homers and 74 RBI over 151 regular-season contests for the Tigers in 2012. The majority of Young's at-bats came as a designated hitter, though he did start 29 games in left field.

Young, a career .284 hitter with 89 homers and 482 over seven major league seasons with Tampa Bay, Minnesota and Detroit, joins offseason trade acquisition Ben Revere, holdover John Mayberry and youngsters Domonic Brown and Darin Ruf in a revamped Philadelphia outfield.

"Delmon is an experienced major league bat who will add some depth to our relatively inexperienced outfield and another layer of competition for playing time there as well," said Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro.

The No. 1 overall pick of the 2003 MLB Draft, Young also owns a .336 average over 89 career interleague games and his hit .310 with runners in scoring position during his big-league tenure.
