Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Bob McClure has been named the Philadelphia Phillies' new pitching coach.

McClure, 61, previously served as pitching coach of the Kansas City Royals and Boston Red Sox. He was promoted to the role by the Red Sox in December 2011, but then let go in August 2012. McClure's brief time with the Red Sox followed a six-year stint (2006-11) with the Royals.

"Bob brings a wealth of experience to our staff," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said in a statement Thursday. "We talked to many good candidates and couldn't be more pleased to add 'Mac' as our pitching coach."

McClure, a former left-handed pitcher, spent 19 years in the majors, appearing in nearly 700 games from 1975-93. He played the bulk of his career -- parts of 10 seasons -- with the Milwaukee Brewers while also pitching for the Royals, Montreal Expos, New York Mets, California Angels, St. Louis Cardinals and Florida Marlins.

McClure replaces Rich Dubee, who did not have his contract renewed after last season.

The team also announced Rod Nichols has been retained as the bullpen coach and Jesus Tiamo will return as the bullpen catcher.
