San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The federal appeals court that upheld Barry Bonds' felony conviction on obstruction of justice last year has agreed to rehear the case.

The former San Francisco Giants slugger was convicted in April 2011 of being evasive during his 2003 grand jury testimony in the BALCO case investigating performance-enhancing drug use in sports.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, after ruling in September that there was sufficient evidence to convict Bonds, voted on Monday to rehear arguments in the case during the week of Sept. 15.

Bonds, who holds the single-season and all-time home run records in Major League Baseball, was sentenced in 2011 to 30 days of house arrest, two years of probation, 250 hours of community service and a $4,000 fine.
