San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - The world champion San Francisco Giants have rewarded left-handed reliever Jeremy Affeldt with a three-year contract.

The 33-year-old, who has been a staple of the Giants' bullpen for the past four seasons, had an integral part in the team's run to the World Series this year.

During the postseason, Affeldt appeared in 10 games, including five of the seven NLCS contests, and did not allow a run. He gave up just five hits and struck out 10 batters, while holding opponents to a .139 batting average in 10.1 innings of work.

Perhaps his most important outing came in the deciding game of the World Series, when he struck out four consecutive batters (Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young and Andy Dirks) in the final two innings to help preserve a 3-3 tie.

Affeldt was coming off a stellar regular season for San Francisco, one in which he threw 63.1 innings, his most since becoming a member of the Giants in 2009.

In 67 relief appearances, Affeldt pitched to a 1-2 record, posting a 2.70 earned run average, while striking out 8.1 batters per 9.0 innings. He gave up just one home run all year.

In four seasons with San Francisco, Affeldt has a 10-9 record with a 2.73 ERA. The 11-year veteran pitched with Kansas City (2002-2006), Colorado (2006-2007) and Cincinnati (2008) before joining the Giants in 2009.
