Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Seattle Mariners made it official Thursday and signed utilityman Willie Bloomquist to a two-year contract.

Financial terms weren't disclosed, but FoxSports.com earlier this week reported it to be worth $5.8 million.

Bloomquist, a Washington native who spent the first seven years of his career with the Mariners, appeared in just 48 games last season for the Arizona Diamondbacks due to injuries and hit .317.

"Now that it finally 'official' I want to say thank you so much to the @Mariners fans and @Dbacks fans for all of your support," Bloomquist wrote on his Twitter account.

The 36-year-old is one of the more versatile players in the game, though, having appeared at every position except pitcher and catcher during his career.

Bloomquist will likely provide depth in the middle of the infield for the Mariners, who have youngsters Nick Franklin and Brad Miller at second base and shortstop, respectively.

Through a 12-year career with the Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds and Diamondbacks, Bloomquist owns a .271 average with a .320 on-base percentage, 103 doubles, 17 home runs, 207 runs batted in, 131 stolen bases and 381 runs scored.
