Rays' Cobb sent to concussion DL

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Rays placed pitcher Alex Cobb on the 7-day concussion disabled list Sunday, less than 24 hours after he was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer.

Cobb was taken to Bayfront Medical Center following the frightening incident, which occurred during the fifth inning of Saturday's 5-3 Tampa win. He tweeted that he woke up with only a minor headache Sunday morning, and the Rays announced the 25-year-old was released from the hospital later in the day.

The right-hander was diagnosed with a mild concussion and never lost consciousness, though he will have his next scheduled start at least pushed back for a few days due to the DL designation.

Cobb has been one of the Rays' most consistent starters this season, having compiled a 6-2 record with a 3.01 earned run average in 13 assignments. Tampa Bay has gone 9-4 in his outings.

Reliever Josh Lueke was recalled from Triple-A Durham prior to Sunday's series finale with the Royals to take Cobb's spot on the active roster.
