Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Nationals have added another strong arm to an already solid rotation, acquiring Doug Fister from the Detroit Tigers on Monday.

The Nationals sent infielder Steve Lombardozzi and a pair of 22-year-old left- handers, Ian Krol and Robbie Ray, to the Tigers.

"This is an exciting day for the Washington Nationals," said president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo. "We feel we've added a talented, young veteran to our starting pitching corps. Doug is battle-tested through playoff experiences, and the depth he brings to our staff is exceptional. We are thrilled to welcome him aboard."

Fister, a 6-foot-8 right-hander, won a career-high 14 games and compiled a 3.67 earned run average in 32 starts and one relief appearance for the Tigers last season.

The 29-year-old's career record is below .500 (44-50), but he boasts a respectable 3.53 ERA in 127 starts and three relief outings for Seattle and Detroit. He has a 3-2 record with a 2.98 ERA in the playoffs.

Fister joins Washington's stacked starting staff that also includes Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann.

Lombardozzi, 25, batted .259 and drove in 22 runs over 118 games last season with Washington. He is a career. 264 hitter with five homers, 32 doubles and 50 RBI.

Krol made his major league debut in 2013, going 2-1 with a 3.95 ERA in 32 relief appearances for the Nationals.

Ray posted an 11-5 record and 3.36 ERA in 27 starts between Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg.
