Recap: Cincinnati vs. Miami

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Omar Infante finished a single short of the cycle as the Miami Marlins picked up their first win of the season, an 8-3 takedown of the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.

Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI while Hanley Ramirez and John Buck each launched two-run homers in the win.

Ricky Nolasco (1-0) tossed eight frames, scattering six hits and giving up three runs while striking out five and walking none. Heath Bell pitched a perfect ninth in his Marlins debut.

"It's nice to see the guys build some confidence," said Ozzie Guillen, who got his first win as Marlins manager.

Mat Latos (0-1) was touched for four runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Sam LeCure and Alfredo Simon each offered up two runs in relief.

"It just felt like once when they got runners on base I tried to do too much, make too much of a perfect pitch," said Latos. "I tried to be too fine."

Joey Votto gave Cincinnati a brief lead with his two-run homer in the fourth inning and Zack Cozart added a solo shot in the eighth.

Stanton opened the scoring in the top of the second with a double after Emilo Bonifacio stole second.

Votto followed in the bottom half with his first home run since signing a 10- year, $225-million extension, an opposite-field blast that scored Cozart.

But Infante immediately tied the game a half-inning later with a solo shot, and Stanton gave the Marlins a lead they did not relinquish with a bases- loaded single a bit later that scored Bonifacio and Jose Reyes.

Ramirez was 0-for-10 on the season before belting a two-run homer in the seventh, and Buck hit a ball out to left-center after Infante's triple in the eighth.

Cozart, who finished 3-for-4, got one back by sending Nolasco's 1-1 fastball into the left-field seats in the bottom of the eighth.

Infante had a chance to become the first Marlin to hit for the cycle when he came to the plate in the ninth, but flied out to Drew Stubbs.

Game Notes

Cozart was a double shy of the cycle...The Marlins and Padres remain the only major league teams to have never had a player hit for the cycle...Miami was 3- for-11 with runners in scoring position.

We've all noticed the trend: NFL teams are more reliant on the passing game offensively than ever before, which makes the running back position more of a commodity than a necessity.
