Recap: Toronto vs. Chicago WSox

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Just when it looked like Ricky Romero was off the hook for his ninth straight losing decision, Adam Dunn slammed the Chicago White Sox to a 9-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Dunn broke a tie in the seventh inning with a three-run blast, his major league-leading 34th of the season, sending the White Sox to their third win in their last four games.

Dewayne Wise hit a two-run homer and knocked in a career-high four runs for Chicago, which has now won two of three to begin this four-game series.

Gavin Floyd (9-9) received the win after he held the Blue Jays to four runs -- three earned -- over six frames. He had eight strikeouts.

"He was getting ahead, getting them to chase," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said.

Romero (8-10) suffered another loss after surrendering six runs on eight hits and two walks in six-plus innings. His last win came June 22 at Miami.

"It feels like I haven't gotten rewarded all year, with anything that I do," said Romero. "(I'm) feeling good, I've had great weeks of workouts and bullpen sessions. I'm right where I want to be and obviously the numbers don't dictate."

Kelly Johnson blasted a game-tying, three-run homer in the sixth inning, but Toronto lost for the seventh time in its last nine games.

After Johnson tied the game in the sixth inning, Romero walked Alejandro De Aza and hit Kevin Youkilis to start the seventh. Brad Lincoln replaced Romero, but Dunn laced his 1-0 fastball well over the right-field fence to put Chicago back on top, 7-4.

Two batters later, A.J. Pierzynski, who extended his hitting streak to a career-best 16 games, doubled and scored when Dayan Viciedo lifted a two-run homer to right to give the White Sox a five-run lead.

Donnie Veal tossed two scoreless frames and Philip Humber, despite giving up a leadoff homer to Jeff Mathis, closed out the win for the White Sox.

The White Sox took the lead in the second inning after Pierzynski, Alexei Ramirez and Viciedo strung together three straight singles to start the inning. With the bases loaded, Wise sliced a fly ball down the left-field line. Edwin Encarnacion made a diving attempt, but the ball bounced out of his glove, allowing two runs to score.

Wise smashed a two-run shot in the fourth inning to score Viciedo, who led off to start the frame, and gave the White Sox a 4-0 lead.

The Blue Jays scored in the fifth after Omar Vizquel singled and Anthony Gose legged out an infield hit. Toronto used a double steal, and with Pierzynski trying to throw Vizquel out at third, Youkilis never covered the base. The throw hit Vizquel and allowed him to score.

Encarnacion singled and David Cooper doubled to start the sixth against Floyd, who had a 2.63 earned run average in his previous eight starts coming into Wednesday. Johnson jumped on his first-pitch cutter, though, and tied the game with a three-run shot.
