Recap: Atlanta vs. San Diego

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Kris Medlen tossed his first career complete game while Chipper Jones hit a pair of home runs to lead the Atlanta Braves past the San Diego Padres, 6-0, in the finale of a four-game series at Turner Field.

Medlen (4-1), who made his fourth start of the season, scattered five hits while not walking a batter and striking out six.

"That was super cool," Medlen said. "I had some balls squared up pretty good, but it was just luck of the draw that they were right at people."

Jason Heyward also homered for Atlanta, which won its third straight game.

Jason Marquis (8-11) surrendered six runs on eight hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings for the Padres, who have dropped four of their last five.

Chase Headley collected a pair of hits in the loss.

Earlier on Thursday, Major League Baseball owners approved the sale of the Padres to a group led by longtime San Diego businessman Ron Fowler. Fowler will be the controlling owner with partners that include pro golfer Phil Mickelson, a San Diego native, and family members of former Dodgers owner Peter O'Malley, including son Kevin and nephew Tom Seidler.

Atlanta jumped out to an early lead with Jones' two-run blast to right field in the first inning. Michael Bourn hit a leadoff double prior to Jones' 11th homer of the year.

After the Padres left a man on second in the second, they again failed to cut into their deficit in the third when Marquis led off the frame with a double and was later tagged out at the plate while trying to score on Everth Cabrera's grounder to the right side of the mound.

The Braves added to their lead in the fifth inning, starting with back-to- back home runs by Heyward and Jones with two outs.

"He's been living off pitcher's mistakes for a long time," Marquis said about Jones. "That's why he's going to be a Hall of Famer."

Marquis was relieved by Brad Boxberger after Freddie Freeman worked a walk, Dan Uggla doubled and Brian McCann was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Paul Janish greeted Boxberger with a two-run single up the middle to give Atlanta a 6-0 advantage. McCann was thrown out at third on the play to end the inning.

Colorado advanced a man past first one more time for the remainder of the game when Logan Forsythe hit a two-out single in the eighth and moved to second on defensive indifference. Cabrera grounded out to second to end the inning before Medlen worked a perfect ninth.

Game Notes

Jones recorded his 40th career multi-home run game and his first since June 7, 2009, against Milwaukee ... Cabrera stole a base in the game and is now 20- for-20 in stolen base attempts this year, extending his franchise-record streak of successful attempts to start a season ... Medlen improved to 1-2 in five career appearances (one start) against the Padres ... Marquis fell to 3-5 in nine career starts against Atlanta.
