Recap: San Diego vs. Texas

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Yu Darvish tossed eight solid innings and the Rangers scored three times off the Padres' bullpen to win, 4-2, and complete their first ever three-game sweep in San Diego.

Darvish (9-4) shook off two early runs and limited the Padres to five hits while striking out eight and walking three in Texas' sixth straight victory and ninth in 10 games.

"After they scored those two runs...he was not going to be denied," Rangers manager Ron Washington said of Darvish.

Michael Young knocked in a run and scored another after Padres starter Anthony Bass exited with inflammation in his right shoulder.

San Diego's bullpen was unable to hold a 2-1 lead, and the hosts fell for the fifth time in six games.

Bass not only held down Texas' prolific offense, he also knocked in John Baker and Alexi Amarista in the second inning with a single down the first-base line past a diving Young.

He allowed a two-out, run-scoring base hit to Alberto Gonzalez in the fifth, then made his way to the clubhouse after the frame because of the injury.

"[Bass] said it felt as if something was going on," Padres manager Bud Black said of his starter's injury. "This is the first time something came up mid- game."

Dale Thayer (0-2) took over and loaded the bases with one out. The reliever nearly got out of the jam by getting Nelson Cruz on a bouncer to third base, but the Padres were unable to turn the double play, allowing Young to score.

Alex Hinshaw entered and walked the only batter he faced, and Brad Boxberger threw a payoff pitch off the plate to Yorvit Torrealba to force in Josh Hamilton with the go-ahead run.

Ian Kinsler used his patience and speed to pad Texas' lead in the seventh, as he earned a one-out walk, stole second and third, then raced home on Young's sacrifice fly to the left-field warning track.

Darvish faced the minimum from the fifth through the eighth innings, and Joe Nathan worked around a two-out single in the ninth to post his 15th save of the season.

Game Notes

Darvish, who threw 122 pitches, recorded his first big-league hit with a broken-bat single to right in the third inning...Bass, who had pitched to an 8.89 earned-run average in his previous five starts, gave up just three hits and one walk in his outing...San Diego's 1-through-5 hitters combined to go 0- for-18 with six strikeouts...Everth Cabrera, the Padres' sixth hitter, had half of the club's six hits.
