Recap: Philadelphia vs. Chicago Cubs

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Starlin Castro drove in two runs and Matt Garza was nearly flawless on the mound over seven innings, as the Chicago Cubs beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-1, in the third installment of a four-game set at Citizens Bank Park.

Garza (2-1) gave up a single to the first batter he faced and didn't allow another base runner until issuing a one-out walk in the seventh. The right- hander recorded 10 strikeouts, including the 800th of his career.

"I just stuck to my game plan of keeping them off balance and just tried to induce weak ground balls and weak pop ups," said Garza.

Rafael Dolis succeeded Garza and tossed a 1-2-3 eighth before being replaced by Carlos Marmol, who gave up a single and walked three in the ninth, including Ty Wigginton with the bases loaded. Shane Victorino grounded out to end the game.

Bryan LaHair had three hits, including two doubles, and scored twice for the Cubs, who have won four of their last six games.

Kyle Kendrick (0-2) gave up three runs -- two earned -- on five hits and a walk in six frames for Philadelphia, which has dropped five of eight.

The Cubs scored a scored a run in three consecutive innings.

Ian Stewart produced a run-scoring groundout after LaHair and Jeff Baker hit back-to-back doubles to open the second.

Tony Campana singled leading off the third and a botched pickoff attempt allowed him to advance to second. Campana then moved to third on Darwin Barney's 4-3 grounder before racing home to beat Brian Schneider's tag on Castro's sacrifice fly to right field.

Joe Mather homered to left field with two outs in the fourth for a 3-0 Chicago lead.

Chicago tacked on two runs in the eighth as Campana scored on Castro's ground ball to second and Baker plated LaHair with a single.

"You're gonna hit a stretch like this where you're going to have to answer questions about not scoring runs," said Phillies outfielder Juan Pierre. "Every team I've been on, these questions are nothing new. I think a lot of guys have been through it enough where you just can't panic."

Game Notes

Kendrick made his 100th career start and tied his career high with seven strikeouts...LaHair has reached base safely in a team-high 18 straight games...Wigginton went 0-for-3 to snap his hitting streak at 13 games.
