Recap: Colorado vs. San Diego

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Kip Wells threw seven shutout innings for his first win since 2009 and the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 2-0 in the rubber match of a three-game series Sunday.

After making his first start in three years last Tuesday in a loss at Houston, Wells (1-1) allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out two.

The 35-year-old righty earned his first victory since Sept. 20, 2009, with the Reds over the Marlins.

"Coming back here and pitching against a team I was with before and having an opportunity to pitch well was gratifying," said Wells, who threw 15 games for Colorado in 2008, including two starts.

"At the same time, that's what I expect from myself and that's obviously why they've given me the ball."

Chris Denorfia had two hits and an RBI for the Padres, who have won three of their last four.

Drew Pomeranz (0-3) gave up an unearned run in six innings after being called up by the Rockies from Triple-A Colorado Springs to start the game. The lefty allowed just two hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts a day after he homered from both sides of the plate for his first two major league hits in an 8-4 win on Saturday.

The Rockies had just one hit against the Padres bullpen -- Dexter Fowler's leadoff single off Luke Gregerson in the eighth. Huston Street, after being named to the NL All-Star team as a manager's selection, struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 12th save.

"Unfortunately we didn't hit enough today to get it done," said Rockies manager Jim Tracy.

The Padres scored the only run they needed on third baseman Jordan Pacheco's throwing error in the third inning. After Denorfia singled and stole second, Logan Forsythe hit a blooper behind the mound that Pacheco charged and fielded before throwing wide to first.

Forsythe was later gunned down by Fowler trying to score on Grandal's fly out to center field, ending the inning.

Rex Brothers replaced Pomeranz to start the seventh, giving up a run after Alexi Amarista singled, went to third on Wells' sac bunt and a wild pitch and scored on Denorfia's opposite-field single to right.

The Padres are 5-4 in the season series...The Rockies optioned pitcher Guillermo Moscoso to Colorado Springs...Fowler hit his 48th career triple, moving him within one of Neifi Perez's Rockies record...Pomeranz had been sent down May 11...The Rockies went 3-4 on a seven-game homestand. They begin a seven-game road trip Monday at St. Louis...The Padres are 4-3 on a 10-game road trip that ends at Arizona starting Monday...Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez was elected to the All-Star team by the players.
