Recap: San Diego vs. Miami

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Mark Buehrle tossed his first complete game as a Marlin and the 28th of his career, lifting Miami to its fifth straight win as it defeated the San Diego Padres, 4-1, in the middle test of a three- game set.

Buehrle (2-4) allowed a run on five hits and two walks. He threw 77 of his 116 pitches for strikes.

"Today was big...It was huge for everyone because now we have one more day without using people," said Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen of Buehrle's outing, which helped the bullpen after the 12-inning victory against San Diego on Friday.

Greg Dobbs came on to pinch-hit in the eighth and slapped the go-ahead single, while Hanley Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Giancarlo Stanton added a solo homer in the ninth.

Clayton Richard (1-4) fanned seven and gave up three runs on nine hits and a walk for San Diego, which has dropped five of its last seven.

"He's a good one...He's a very accomplished Major League left-handed pitcher," said San Diego manager Bud Black of Buehrle.

With the score tied 1-1 after seven innings, the Marlins plated two in the eighth to take the lead.

Jose Reyes walked and Emilio Bonifacio singled to begin the frame. Ramirez then grounded into a force out to put runners on the corners with one away. Dobbs came up next and singled to center to bring home Reyes, while Ramirez hustled to third. Omar Infante then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Ramirez, making it 3-1 in favor of Miami.

The Marlins added an insurance run in the ninth on Stanton's towering solo shot to left field.

Earlier, Miami tallied the game's first run in the fourth. Ramirez singled and Austin Kearns followed with a base hit, but Ramirez was thrown out at third. Kearns scored when Omar Infante cracked a double into deep center field.

San Diego tied the game in the sixth. With one out, Jesus Guzman poked one into shallow left field and Ramirez ran the ball down in foul territory and threw a strike to second that appeared to be in plenty of time to nab Guzman. But he eluded Omar Infante's tag after lifting his left leg over Infante's glove. Guzman then came home when Chase Headley singled to center.

Game Notes

Four consecutive one-run wins preceded Saturday's three-run margin of victory for Miami...The Marlins were 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position while San Diego was 1-for-6.
