Recap: San Diego vs. Colorado

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Yonder Alonso finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in as the San Diego Padres took the first game of a three-game set with the Colorado Rockies in 3-2 fashion Monday.

Edinson Volquez (1-2) picked up his first win as a Padre by allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while fanning five over 5 1/3 innings to help the Padres snap a three-game skid after being swept by Miami.

"It feels great, that's what I want," Volquez said. "After we lost three on the road, to come back here and win the game, it's awesome."

Dale Thayer recorded his first save in almost three seasons, since his major league debut on May 22, 2009 with Tampa Bay.

Drew Pomeranz (0-2) suffered the setback, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over three frames. He also hit the first home run of his professional career as the Rockies dropped their fourth in a row.

After Cameron Maybin hit a one-out double, Alonso opened the scoring in the home first with a liner over the head of Pomeranz.

San Diego pushed its advantage to 2-0 an inning later. Orlando Hudson led off with a single, moved to third on a pair of groundouts and came home on Pomeranz's wild pitch.

Colorado's starter got one back the next half-inning, when he crushed a middle-in fastball into the left-field seats.

"Apparently I jogged around the bases a little slow, I don't know if that's because of my leg or what, probably for that trot around the bases I didn't feel my legs too much," Pomeranz joked.

Alonso hit another run-scoring single to center in the home third, this time plating Chase Headley after he and Jesus Guzman walked.

Carlos Gonzalez pulled the Rockies' to within one once more in the sixth, on a base hit that scored Marco Scutaro, but the Padres' bullpen retired the final 11 Colorado batters without a baserunner to seal the contest.
