Recap: Miami vs. Cincinnati

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Jacob Turner spun seven scoreless innings of two- hit ball Friday, as the Miami Marlins blanked the Cincinnati Reds, 4-0, in the opener of a three-game set at Marlins Park.

Turner (1-2) struck out three and walked two to earn his first victory as a Marlin. Heath Bell turned in a scoreless eighth, while Steve Cishek worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to secure the shutout.

"I was just being aggressive early, trying to get ahead as much as I could," Turner said of his outing. "When I didn't get ahead, I was able to make quality pitches when I was behind in the count and not really give in."

Greg Dobbs clubbed a solo home run and Justin Ruggiano added an RBI and a run scored for the Marlins, who were coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Bronson Arroyo (12-8) was tagged with the loss after giving up all four runs on nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The right-hander had won his last five decisions.

"Bronson didn't do badly, we just didn't put up any runs," Reds manager Dusty Baker said of his starter. "He just made that one mistake on Dobbs. Other than that he threw the ball pretty well."

The Reds managed just three hits overall in the setback, but maintain a double-digit advantage atop the NL Central.

The Marlins jumped on top in the third inning, as Rob Brantly and Bryan Petersen smacked singles around a Turner strikeout. Ruggiano then stroked a double into left field to plate Brantly for a 1-0 lead.

Dobbs led off the fourth with a towering shot into the upper deck in right field to double Miami's advantage before the Marlins tacked on two more in the fifth.

Ruggiano and Jose Reyes ripped consecutive one-out singles before Carlos Lee served a single into right field to score Ruggiano. Lee was caught in a rundown between first and second on the throw to the plate and Reyes alertly took home before Lee was thrown out on his way to second.

The lead was more than enough for Turner, who held the Reds hitless over his final three frames before handing the ball over to the bullpen.

Game Notes

Lee was removed at the start of the sixth inning with a strained neck and was replaced by Gil Velazquez, who was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans before the game ... It was Cincinnati's first game at Marlins Park ... Turner and Brantly were acquired from the Detroit Tigers on July 23.
