Recap: Kansas City vs. Arizona

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Wade Miley tossed seven scoreless innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks blanked the Kansas City Royals, 2-0, in the finale of a three-game interleague series at Kauffman Stadium.

Miley (5-1) scattered six hits and fanned three while issuing two free passes to earn the win. David Hernandez struck out three in the eighth and J.J. Putz was perfect in the ninth to nail down his ninth save of the season.

"I felt good today. I had to battle a little bit," Miley said. "I had some guys on base and worked through it. I feel good every time out. I feel like I want to give our team a chance to win."

Justin Upton knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly and John McDonald was credited with an RBI on a bunt single for the Diamondbacks, who have won three of their last four games.

Nathan Adcock (0-2) was the tough-luck loser in this one, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk while striking out three.

Jeff Francoeur went 4-for-4 at the plate, including a two-out triple in the sixth, but the Royals were unable to push any runs across the dish and lost for the fourth time in their last five tries.

Arizona broke a scoreless deadlock with a run in the fifth inning. Paul Goldschmidt began the frame with a double and Hill followed with a base hit to put D-Backs on the corners. McDonald then pushed a bunt up the first base line towards a charging Eric Hosmer, but the Royals first baseman couldn't make the play cleanly, allowing Goldschmidt to score.

Francoeur ripped a two-out triple down the line in right in the Kansas City sixth, but he was left there as Alex Gordon grounded out to end the inning.

Facing Greg Holland in the eighth, Gerardo Parra started the frame with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Roberts. Parra then was able to take third on a wild pitch before waltzing home with a much-needed insurance run on a fly ball by Upton to make it 2-0.

After Alcides Escobar and Mike Moustakas fanned to start the home half of the inning, Billy Butler was plunked by Hernandez and Francoeur followed with a base hit up the middle to put runners on the corners, but Gordon struck out to end the threat.

"Nate pitched his butt off today," Francoeur said. "We just as a group today offensively just didn't get it done."

Putz closed it out by getting Hosmer and Brayan Pena to line out before fanning Jarrod Dyson to end the game.
