Recap: Philadelphia vs. Atlanta

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Tim Hudson worked 7 1/3 strong innings to guide the Atlanta Braves to a 2-1 triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies in the finale of a three-game set.

Hudson (16-6) allowed just one unearned run on two hits and struck out four to pick up his fourth win in six starts.

"Coming in here and holding these guys to one run, and pitching a 2-1 ball game is outstanding," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said of Hudson. "To face that lineup and giving up only one run, an unearned run on his part, it was a good series."

David Ross had a solo homer and Dan Uggla drove in a run for the Braves, winners in seven of nine.

Atlanta's magic number to clinch a playoff berth is two.

Chase Utley knocked in the lone run for the Phillies, who trail the St. Louis Cardinals by five games for the final NL wild card spot. The Cardinals beat the Cubs on Sunday.

Cliff Lee (6-8) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on nine hits and struck out 11 over eight innings to absorb the loss.

The Braves took an early lead in the second when Ross clubbed a homer to straight-away center field. It was his eighth homer of the season.

Atlanta added one more in the third when Uggla plated Reed Johnson with a sacrifice fly. Johnson opened the frame with a single before moving to second on Martin Prado's base hit off right fielder Domonic Brown's glove.

Lee's fielding error allowed Johnson to take third before scoring on Uggla's towering fly ball to center field.

Utley put the Phillies on the board with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Jimmy Rollins walked then took second on a throwing error from Hudson on a pickoff attempt. Pierre's sacrifice bunt moved Rollins to third before Utley's line drive to right field. Heyward made a diving catch, but couldn't get a throw to the plate in time to catch the speedy Rollins.

Craig Kimbrel retired the side in order in the ninth to nail down his 39th save.

"Crazier things have happened, we definitely dug ourselves a hole dropping a series at home," Pierre said. "If you have to go out there and win, because if you don't win you can't gain any ground."
