Recap: Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Pete Kozma homered and drove in a pair, Allen Craig added a two-run double and the St. Louis Cardinals downed the Chicago Cubs, 6-3, in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Kyle Lohse (16-3) gave up three runs on five hits over six innings and set a career-high for wins in a season.

David Freese and Carlos Beltran had an RBI apiece for the Cardinals, who remained 2 1/2 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL's final wild card spot. Milwaukee defeated the Nationals earlier Sunday.

Justin Germano (2-9) was charged with four runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings and lost his seventh straight decision.

"He's done a nice job for us, especially lately," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said about Germano. "He's going five or six innings and keeping the game within grasp."

Alfonso Soriano hit a sixth-inning homer in the loss.

Craig's two-run double came with two down in the third inning and Freese followed with a base hit to center for a 3-0 lead.

Wellington Castro made it 3-2 in the fourth when he drove home Starlin Castro with a double and scored later in the frame on a wild pitch.

Kozma and Soriano traded homers in the sixth.

The Cardinals loaded the bases in the eighth on a pair of walks and a single by Skip Schumaker before Kozma lifted a sac fly to right field and the pinch- hitting Beltran followed with an RBI single up the middle.

"It didn't feel like a huge lead. Crazy things happen here," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "I don't think it's just against us. It's just kind of how this field plays."

Game Notes

Lohse had 15 wins for the Cardinals in 2008. He is 4-4 in 16 career starts against the Cubs ... Germano is 1-2 in five games -- two starts -- in his career versus the Cardinals.
