Recap: Chicago WSox vs. Cleveland

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Dayan Viciedo went 3-for-5 with a home run and a career-high five RBI to help power the Chicago White Sox to a 14-7 stomping of the Cleveland Indians.

Paul Konerko went 4-for-4 with two RBI and Alex Rios had three hits, including a two-run homer in the eighth, and three RBI for the White Sox, winners in eight of their last nine.

Jake Peavy (6-1) gave up seven runs on six hits and fanned nine over 6 1/3 innings to come away with the win.

Jason Kipnis had a pair of two-run blasts and Michael Brantley drove in three for the Indians, who have lost two in a row since sweeping the Detroit Tigers May 22-May 24.

Derek Lowe (6-3) was pegged with the loss after giving up eight runs on 10 hits in just 2 1/3 innings.

"It's just one of those nights we didn't come up with a big hit, it happens," Kipnis said. "(Chicago's) hitters had a good approach tonight and got the ball in the air and it wasn't a good night for that. We were in it for most of the game. A couple more hits here and there and it could have gone either way."

The White Sox used a big first inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Gordon Beckham and Adam Dunn hit back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Konerko followed with a single of his own to score Beckham. A.J. Pierzynski followed with a double to right to score Dunn before Viciedo singled to plate Konerko and Pierzynski.

Cleveland had a big inning of its own in the third. With the bases loaded and one out, Brantley doubled to right-center to clear the bases. Kipnis then followed with a two-run blast to take a 5-4 lead.

But Chicago added four more in the third to take the lead for good. Dunn hit a ground-rule double then scored when Konerko hit a ground-rule double of his own. Rios followed with a single that scored Konerko before Viciedo's two-run homer made it 8-5.

"We're playing good. This is the kind of stuff we need to do," said Dunn. "When we're playing well we need to rattle off as many wins as we can. Because you're going to win four, five, six in a row and you're going to lose four, five, six in a row."

The Tribe scored two in the fifth to cut the lead to 8-7. Choo singled before Kipnis smacked his second two-run shot of the day.

The White Sox put together another four-run inning in the seventh to take a commanding 12-7 lead. Konerko walked then scored on a Rios double. Konerko stopped at third but waltzed home when Juan Diaz dropped a relay throw. Pierzynski then singled to put runners on the corners and Viciedo drove in his fifth run of the game with a single. Alexei Ramirez beat out an infield hit to load the bases before Alejandro De Aza grounded into what looked like a routine double-play, but Kotchman dropped the throw and Pierzynski and Viciedo scored.

Rios capped the scoring in the eighth with a two-run homer.

"There have been some ups and downs but at the end of the day when we come in we know there is a positive vibe in here," Pierzynski said. "Guys want to do well and guys are trying to do well and guys are working their tails off to do well. And we know we're in for a dog fight and at the end of the day we like where were at and we like our chances."
