Recap: Miami vs. Philadelphia

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Cole Hamels allowed one run over seven innings to guide the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-1 win over the Miami Marlins in the finale of a three-game set at Marlins Park.

Hamels (17-6) scattered five hits and struck out eight to reach the 17-win plateau for the first time in his career.

"I like being consistent, but at the same time there are types of numbers where I could be better," Hamels said. "I would rather be consistent on a better basis. There is always improvements that can be had."

Carlos Ruiz went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and Nate Schierholtz had two hits and drove in a run for the Phillies, who have won two straight on the heels of a three-game skid.

Nathan Eovaldi (4-13) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out seven over six innings to absorb the loss.

"My last two or three starts I have been striking out more guys, I think it is the mix (of pitches) I have been using," Eovaldi said.

Carlos Lee knocked in the lone run for the Marlins, who have dropped 11 of their last 13.

The Phillies plated three in the first inning. Chase Utley's sacrifice fly scored Jimmy Rollins and Ruiz doubled to push Juan Pierre across. Schierholtz followed with an RBI base hit to knock in Ruiz.

"That was good for Hamels, that was good for every thing about the game," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "That is kind of what the game is about. If you can get a lead early, you can add more on later."

With runners on second and third and two outs in the fourth inning, Lee singled to right field to score Jose Reyes. Giancarlo Stanton tried to score from second on the soft liner. but was cut down at the plate to end the inning.

The Phillies padded their lead in the eighth when Domonic Brown lifted a sac fly to center field to score Utley.

The Marlins put two runners on in the ninth inning, put Jonathan Papelbon was able to strike out Donovan Solano and John Buck to end the game. It was Papelbon's 38th save of the season.

Game Notes

The Phillies won the season series 10-8 ... Philadelphia has had nine straight seasons with a record of .500 or better in September ... Eovaldi hasn't won since Aug. 18.
