Recap: Miami vs. San Francisco

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Melky Cabrera smacked four more hits, including a solo homer, to go with three runs scored as the San Francisco Giants edged the Miami Marlins, 3-2, in the finale of a four-game set.

Cabrera registered his major-league leading 24th multi-hit game and added to his hit total of 73, which is tops in the National League. He has 46 hits in the month of May and is five away from tying Randy Winn for the San Francisco-era record for the most hits in a month. Winn accomplished the feat in September of 2005.

"Melky was a one-man show this week," Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He hit everything we threw...he's a pretty good hitter."

Matt Cain (5-2) surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on five hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings for the Giants, who earned a split of the series. Cain has won four consecutive starts.

"We've been playing well...I know that we wanted to have a good flight home and split the series with them," Cain said.

Ricky Nolasco (5-3) was charged with three runs on five hits and two walks in seven frames for the Marlins, who have dropped three of their last five.

The Giants opened the scoring in the first inning when Cabrera scorched a stinging line drive over the wall in right for a 1-0 lead.

San Francisco tallied another run in fourth frame. Cabrera started it with a single to center, stole second and then moved to third on Buster Posey's base hit to left. He scored on Angel Pagan's sacrifice fly to left, making it 2-0.

The Marlins got on the board in the fifth inning. Giancarlo Stanton walked and scampered to second on Logan Morrison's bunt single. He crossed the plate when Chris Coghlan's chopper snuck through the hole on the right side, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

But the Giants got the run back in the sixth frame. With two away, Cabrera singled to center and Posey followed by belting a shot to deep center, which caromed off the wall and allowed a hustling Cabrera to coast in from first, giving the visitors a 3-1 edge.

Miami plated a run in the seventh inning on Jose Reyes' RBI single to right to make it 3-2, but Santiago Casilla worked around a two-out single in the ninth for his 12th save of the season.

Game Notes

The Marlins fell to 18-8 in May and remain one victory shy of tying the franchise record for most wins in a month. They won 19 games in August of 1997, the year they won the World Series...Nolasco had his four-game winning streak snapped against the Giants...San Francisco was 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position while Miami was 2-for-10.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
