Recap: Toronto vs. Minnesota

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Omar Vizquel ended his illustrious 24-year career on a high note, lacing a base hit to center field to move into sole possession of 40th place on the all-time hits list.

The 45-year-old Venezuelan passed Mel Ott with his single in the seventh inning of the Toronto Blue Jays' 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. It was the 2,877th hit of Vizquel's career.

Vizquel finished the game 1-for-3 while Rajai Davis and Adeiny Hechavarria each drove in runs for the Blue Jays (73-89), who have won three straight.

Brandon Morrow (10-7) allowed one run on three hits and struck out 11 over eight innings to reach the 10-win plateau for the third consecutive season.

"I thought I took a lot of steps forward in my development as a starter," Morrow said. "I think the development of my changeup and split-finger was a key for me all year."

Ben Revere went 3-for-4 and Matt Carson drove in the lone run for the Twins (66-96), who dropped their final five games of the season.

Scott Diamond (12-9) was saddled with the loss after giving up two runs on five hits. He left after the fifth after his calf stiffened up.

"He finished the fourth and fifth and we weren't going to let him go back out there after something like that," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Heck of a year for that young man. He did a great job and threw the ball very well again today."

Toronto scored a pair of runs in the third inning to take an early lead.

Anthony Gose ripped a two-out triple to right field and then scored on Davis' base hit to left field. Hechavarria followed with a single to center field to score Davis.

Minnesota countered with a run in the fourth to make it 2-1. Revere opened the frame with a base hit to center field before moving to third following a pair of walks. Carson followed with a groundout to score Revere.

Minnesota stranded two runners in the sixth as Morrow struck out Carson to end the threat.

Morrow then spun perfect innings in the seventh and eighth and Brandon Lyon worked around a one-out single in the ninth to notch his first save with Toronto.
