Recap: Cleveland vs. Chicago WSox

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Dan Johnson hit three home runs and drove in five as the Chicago White Sox ended their disappointing stretch on a high note with a 9-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.

Chicago had a three-game lead in the American League Central as late as Sept. 18, but a 2-10 slump prior to winning two of its final three games allowed the Detroit Tigers to steal the division title.

Gavin Floyd (12-11) tossed seven innings of three-hit scoreless ball on Wednesday, while Dayan Viciedo went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and four runs scored for the White Sox (85-77), who ended three games back of Detroit.

"Sometimes this game is cruel and it can get hard. ... But what they brought every day and what they gave the staff is appreciated," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura, who had the most victories by a Sox manager in his first season since Gene Lamont won 86 in 1992.

David Huff (3-1) got roughed up for seven runs -- three earned -- on nine hits and two walks over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.

"We have a lot of young guys that are hungry to play for next year...and hopefully we're all back again. We're like a big family," Huff said.

The Indians (68-94) finished fourth in the AL Central, 20 games behind the Tigers.

Johnson's first home run of the season was a no-doubter to right-center in the second frame.

Viciedo earned a walk ahead of the blast, then doubled leading off the fourth before scoring on Hector Gimenez's two-out single.

Huff served up Paul Konerko's 26th home run of the season in the fifth after Lonnie Chisenhall's error allowed Ray Olmedo to reach base. Johnson, following a single by Viciedo, added another homer to right for a 7-0 cushion.

Viciedo and Johnson hit back-to-back shots off Vinnie Pestano in the ninth.

Game Notes

Konerko has 46 career home runs against Cleveland, the most for all active players ... Floyd finished with a winning record for the first time since 2008 ... The White Sox sat designated hitter Adam Dunn, who was one strikeout shy of matching Mark Reynolds' major league record of 223 set with Arizona in 2009 ... Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo went 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to a career-high 13 games ... Cleveland went 24-53 after the All-Star break ... Chicago won the season series, 11-7.
