Recap: Atlanta vs. Washington

Lake Buena Vista, FL (Sports Network) - Gio Gonzalez was victorious in his Washington Nationals spring training debut, throwing three scoreless innings Tuesday in a 5-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Gonzalez (1-0) was acquired from Oakland in a six-player trade in December and signed a contract extension with the club through 2016.

The left-hander gave up a single and a walk in the first inning, then settled down to allow just one more baserunner on an error. He finished with two strikeouts.

Jayson Werth and Mark DeRosa hit solo homers and Chad Tracy had a two-run double for the Nationals, who out-hit the Braves 9-8.

Kris Medlen (0-1) allowed a run on three hits, striking out two and walking none in a two-inning start for Atlanta. Dan Uggla had an RBI double for the Braves.
