Recap: Baltimore vs. Kansas City

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - J.J. Hardy hit a two-run home run to lead the Baltimore Orioles in a 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals in the second of three from Camden Yards.

Manny Machado also drove in a run while Chris Tillman (3-1) gave up three runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts over six innings for the Orioles, who have won four straight.

"He had a really good tempo tonight and didn't walk too any people," said Baltimore manager Buck Showalter. "When teams get a lot of walks they usually take advantage of it and that didn't happen."

Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run while Alex Gordon added a solo shot for the Royals, who have dropped their past three. Luis Mendoza (0-2) gave up five runs -- three earned -- on five hits with three walks in six innings to take the loss.

Baltimore struck in the second inning as Matt Wieters singled to start the inning and Hardy followed with his sixth homer of the season, a shot to left, for a 2-0 lead.

The Royals got a run back in the fifth on Gordon's fifth homer of the year, but the Orioles padded their advantage in the bottom of the frame.

Chris Dickerson doubled to start the frame and Nate McLouth followed with a grounder to short that saw Alcides Escobar try to get Dickerson at third. His throw, though, hit Dickerson and everyone was safe. After McLouth stole second, Machado singled home Dickerson and McLouth was able to cross the plate off a bad throw home from Escobar during a Machado steal of second base. A wild pitch then scored Machado for a 5-1 advantage.

"The key to that inning is that if Escobar goes to first for the easy out they probably just score the one run," said Kansas City manager Ned Yost.

The Royals went deep again in the sixth, this time a two-run shot from Moustakas with Lorenzo Cain on base, to make it a 5-3 game.

Troy Patton worked a 1-2-3 seventh for Baltimore, Darren O'Day and Brian Matusz kept the Royals off the board in the eighth, while Jim Johnson held the lead in the ninth for his 13th save of the season.
