Recap: Miami vs. Chicago Cubs

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - David DeJesus went 2-for-4 and his go-ahead RBI single in the seventh paved the way for a Chicago Cubs 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday at Marlins Park.

DeJesus scored a run earlier, while Luis Valbuena had two hits and plated a run for Chicago, which has won the first three of this four-game set. The Cubs will go for the sweep Sunday afternoon.

Travis Wood (2-1) struck out five over six stellar innings, yielding just two runs on three hits. In his previous two starts against the Marlins, he combined to surrender 15 runs on 16 hits in eight innings pitched.

Starlin Castro added a hit and made a spectacular play at short in the eighth to keep the lead intact. Kevin Gregg picked up his third save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his first homer of the season and Miguel Olivo added a solo shot as well for the Marlins, losers of eight of their last 10 games.

Alex Sanabia (2-3) was touched for three runs on six hits and two walks over 6 2/3 frames.

"It feels like I'm saying the same thing every single night," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "We were right there."

DeJesus broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh when he came up with runners on first and second. He laced a Mike Dunn fastball into center and Welington Castillo, who singled to begin the frame, came around to score.

The Cubs were in trouble in the bottom of the eighth when the Marlins put runners on first and second, but Castro got them out of the jam.

Austin Kearns came to the plate and grounded Carlos Marmol's pitch toward the hole at short, but Castro made a run-saving stop and flipped to Darwin Barney for an inning ending force out at second base.

The Cubs got on the board right away. DeJesus doubled to begin the first and took third base on a fielding error by the right-fielder Stanton. He then scored on Sanabia's wild pitch.

Stanton made up for his blunder in the bottom half of the frame, launching a two-out solo blast, a 472-foot shot that caromed off the glass panels in left field above the scoreboard to knot the score at 1-1.

"The one Stanton hit was quite impressive, it was something to see," Wood said. "I threw a pitch where it ended up where I didn't want it to be and he did everything he could to hit it about as far as he could."

Valbuena singled home Nate Schierholtz, who doubled to start the second, but the Marlins retaliated in the home half on Olivo's solo homer.

Game Notes

The Marlins were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position ... The Cubs have seen all 23 games this season decided by four runs or less ... Chicago left six runners on base.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
